It was 2 months into the pandemic in 2020 and all 4 people (and the dog) were now home 24/7. In Columbus Ohio, we all still had stay at home orders, but the kids, 5 and 7 at the time, were trashing the house quicker than could clean anything up. Because let’s be real, you can’t work and teach at the same time, it’s physically not possible. Nothing gets done.
Everyone knows finding high quality furniture that doesn’t break the bank is nearly impossible. We have a sectional we loved that was passed down from my in-laws, that still had lots of love left in it, but also a 5 and 7 year old. While a new couch sounded awesome, we weren’t ready to buy new furniture for them to ruin, so getting a high quality couch cover was the perfect idea!
Finding a decent slip cover proved harder than I expected. I scoured dozens of websites, read what seemed like an endless flow of reviews and asked friends and families about their experiences.
Upon arrival, I was skeptical at based on the size of the product and our couch that it would not only fit, but would also look nice. The fabric was a scrunchie material but did appear to a lot of give. (Picture of actual color below) After starting in one corner of the couch, I followed the simple directions. While I am sure the job would have been made easier with two people, I wanted to get it on the couch to convince my husband why we needed a slip cover. Mission accomplished.
After 3 months I decided to write an online review for Amazon. Overall, we have been very pleased with results. Not only did it give a great update to the space but it can be easily removed and cleaned. As a bonus it comes with little clips similar to clipping mittens to jackets to help hold in place.
In 2022 I remodeled our living room and loved the sectional so much that I actually brought it up into the main area. I was pleasantly surprised how well the cover worked in different areas, with totally different design ideas and pulled the space together well.
Tip. Our home was built in 1970 and is considered mid-century modern. The rooms are decent size but are sometimes odd shapes. Thankfully, no one ever knocked out an important wall during the HGTV renovation rage of the early 2000s, so we still have defined spaces. To make room for the sectional, I visited a local thrift store and purchased a few hard back books of the same size and placed them behind the couch to allow room for the curtains to move freely. Scrap 2x4s would do the trick but I didn’t have any.
Conclusion
3 years later, I still don’t love the fabric but that’s what makes it fit, and why it is washable. Originally it included long cardboard triangles approximately the size of a quarter that are meant to keep the seams in place. They are honestly worthless. Everytime someone sits on the couch, I readjust to make sure it looks nice. All of that said, I would buy this cover again in a minute.
